The First Chapter of Suckers’ Roulette is up

I’ve started a new fiction project, a serial novel called Suckers’ Roulette, which I’m posting on Medium. To be honest, I really started the project two and a half years ago, but after a rest from writing in the summer I’ve picked it up again and started to put it together in earnest.
Yes, I know it’s NaNoWriMo, but I don’t have the time to try to bang out 1667 words per day for 30 consecutive days. I have to work and stuff. Rather than the blitzkrieg, my strategy is divide-and-conquer. I’ve subdivided the work into at least two “books”, the first being a novella-length storyline involving two of the characters.
Here’s a short intro:
The year is 2110. Medical science has managed to “square the curve” of human mortality. Health has improved and average lifespans have increased to more than one hundred years, but the maximum human lifespan remains unchanged. It is normal to past a hundred with the health and appearance of early middle age, then experience a sudden and fatal health crash.
Sarah Kumar is a sixty-year-old former coder, training for a second career as a data journalist. She thinks she has a scoop about a mysterious man who seems to have gone “over the wall” — surviving, somehow, to a hundred and forty years old. She’s been on his trail for months, her money is running out, and now she thinks she’s about to find him.
Book 1 is outlined out right now at 14 chapters and about 30,000 words, though that could change. Chapter 1 is posted, Chapter 2 will go out this week. Chapters 3-7 and 14 have at least a first draft, and the rest only have titles and notes. Inspired by Andy Weir, I’m just going to post them as I finish them, and possibly revise as I go. We’ll see how it turns out.
Book 2 is in initial planning stages, I have the main characters, setting and theme, but not really the story yet.
