About JP

I am a career computer scientist who loves science, literature, and music.

I write fiction, focusing on short stories — some hard science fiction, some just “sciency” fiction, some literary fiction. I like characters who know things. Like Kurt Vonnegut, I think fiction is best when the writer has something on his or her mind besides literature.

Some of my favorite authors, in no particular order: Neal Stephenson, Cormac McCarthy, Ursula K. LeGuin, Fitzgerald, Hemingway, Kate Chopin, Jane Austen, Ted Simmons, William Gibson, Chekhov, Tolstoy, Tolkien, Asimov, Heinlein,…

In other lives I’ve developed software, done corporate data science, studied machine learning, AI, and robotics, made computational models of the firing of neural pathways in monkey brains, and written rock songs and played guitar in bands.
